This project has two parts, the vector and the woodcut. The woodcut piece was inspired by the vector piece, but they go together in this commemoration of the Kansas City Royals baseball team. I worked with the concept of lost and found and negative space.

 

The letters are placed so that they overlap one another and form black and white areas. The woodcut process began by sanding the block and tracing my image backwards onto the block. It is important for the image to be sketched backwards because printing flips the image. The parts that I wanted to appear blue were the parts that I did not carve out. The parts that I wanted to appear white were the parts that I did carve out.
